The NJK Holding Corporation’s founder and chairman, Nasser Kazeminy also serves as head of the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations (NECO). Founded three decades ago, the organization seeks to promote and preserve the immigrant-informed diversity that has made America what it is. Each year, Nasser Kazeminy presents the Ellis Island Medals of Honor on behalf of NECO to U.S. citizens who embody values of achievement, tolerance, and inclusion.
In April, 2015, the ranks of Ellis Island Medal recipients was expanded to include Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. After serving two terms as a state senator in Arizona, Ronald Reagan appointed O’Connor to the nation’s highest bench in 1981, making her the first woman to earn the distinction of a seat on the Supreme Court. She served capably in the role of Associate Justice until her 2006 retirement. Other 2015 recipients included New York Yankees pitching great Mariano Rivera and WPIX-NY anchorwoman Tamsen Fadal.
